Phoenix’s Big Day Out

This Friday come down to Victory Park 5-8 and watch Eklipz perform. Also come along and support Phoenix’s Big Day Out, for those who don’t know, Phoenix is a little boy who is fighting cancer and this event is for him and his Whanau to raise funds. So come along and support if you’re free!

To all DHS Families and Students

DHS has closed from the end of term 2 2011, and have been taken over by two senior students from DHS, Kelsey and Jack. They now operate hip-hop classes every Wed at Broadgreen Intermediate School from 4-5pm.

The new name is Eklipz Dance Studio.

DHS has successfully run since October 2005. We have had many great experiences and value the support from families who bring their children to our programme. It only saddens me that many children (current and future) will miss out on our programme for this period of time.

Mrs T and I are moving to the Gold Coast at the end of March 2012. We are pleased that Kelsey and Jack will carry on the mentorship through their dance studio.

We wish all students and families all the best, and hope that in some small way, we have made a positive impact on your children’s lives. Thank you all.

ONSET presents – Shakedown 2011, hosted by ORIGIN Dance Crew. Top Dance Crews from all over the South Island bring creativity, passion and power to the d-floor and battle it out for cash prizes. Juniors, College Age and Open + Solo and Small group sections. Special guest performances from ORIGIN Dance Crew & Eklipz 002. MC Josiah Burton is back, and there will be some great competitons & giveaways + heaps more – You wont want to miss this!!!

Matariki Lantern Parade Wed 15 June 2011

Darnz Hip-Hop Salsa will be performing alongside Samba de Sol at the Victory Community Lantern Parade on Wed 15 June 2011. We will still run our Junior class at Nayland College from 4-5pm but will head to Victory Community Centre after this class. So there will be no ‘senior’ class or Eklipz Training on this day. Seniors (and those juniors who would like to come along to the parade), will be performing between 6-6:15pm. We will be doing some ‘generic’ dances that we will teach over the next couple of weeks at class.

Remember to bring your own lantern or torch as well as own knife, fork, spoon as there will be a hangi served for $2 per adult $1 per child. Also bring warm clothing. If wet, we will keep you posted if the event will be still on?

HANGI FUNDRAISER – Saturday 2 April 2011

Two weeks ago, I took our EKLIPZ 002 Crew to the Street Dance NZ Hip-Hop comps in Wellington. The team came 3rd and have made it to Nationals in Auckland on the 8th of April. We have only 3 weeks left to raise $4,000!

The quickest way to raise funds of this size is to have a Hangi Fundraiser on Saturday 2nd April 2011.

So please help us get to the Nationals by buying a Hangi ticket for only $10. You will get;

Chicken, pork, mutton
Potato, kumara, pumpkin, cabbage, stuffing
Fried bread

Steamed pudding will also be available for sale ‘on the day’ for $2 when you pick up your hangi.

Pick up your hangi from Whakatu Marae (in between Founders and Miyazu Gardens) at 5:30pm on Saturday 2nd April

We are pre-selling tickets only (so we know how many hangi packs to prepare).

REMEMBER register for DHS classes starting on Wed 16 Feb 2011 for Nelson and Thursday 17 Feb in Motueka.

FREE YOUTH ACTING WORKSHOP Ages 13-25yrs

Mess Up The Mess Theatre Company are delivering a FREE WORKSHOP for youth interested in acting. Led by theatre professionals and a chance to get involved in an international youth project right here in Nelson.

The workshops will attempt to put the script created by the groups in Wales, Hong Kong and Sydney in a kiwi context. The script has been written based on lots of creative project and the writer is a prominent up and coming Welsh creative. The Welsh group love the script and with adaption, it would be brought to stage in Nelson.

Workshop runs from Wed 19 to Fri 21 Jan at Fairfield House from 10:30am-4pm daily.
